RESUMEN

Improving equity in undergraduate STEM is a national imperative. Although there is a rapidly growing body of research in this area, there is still a need to generate empirical evidence for equitable teaching techniques. We ground our work in Complex Instruction, an extensively researched pedagogical approach based on sociological theories and the malleability of status. This approach has been applied primarily in K-12 classrooms. In this manuscript, we explore the application of one strategy from Complex Instruction-assigning competence-to undergraduate STEM classrooms. We provide an analysis of three instructors' implementation of assigning competence and track the impact on student participation. This work makes a unique contribution to the field, as the first study that directly documents changes in student participation resulting from assigning competence in undergraduate STEM.

RESUMEN

CONTEXT: Autosomal dominant osteopetrosis (ADO) is a rare sclerotic bone disease characterized by impaired osteoclast activity, resulting in high bone mineral density and skeletal fragility. The full phenotype and disease burden on patients' daily lives has not been systematically measured. OBJECTIVE: We developed an online registry to ascertain population-based data on the spectrum and rate of progression of disease and to identify relevant patient centered outcomes that could be used to measure treatment effects and guide the design of future clinical trials. DESIGN: Cross-sectional data from participants with osteopetrosis were collected using an online REDCap-based database. PARTICIPANTS: Thirty-four participants with a confirmed diagnosis of ADO, aged 4-84 years. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Participants aged 18 years and older completed the PROMIS 57, participants aged 8 to 17 years completed the PROMIS Pediatric 49, and parents of participants aged <18 years completed the PROMIS Parent Proxy 49. RESULTS: Based on the PROMIS 57, relative to the general population, adults with ADO reported low physical function and low ability to participate in social roles and activities, and high levels of anxiety, fatigue, sleep problems, and pain interference. Daily pain medications were reported by 24% of the adult population. In contrast, neither pediatric participants, nor their parent proxy reported a negative impact on health-related quality of life. CONCLUSIONS: Data from this registry demonstrate the broad spectrum of ADO disease severity and high impact on health-related quality of life in adults with ADO.

RESUMEN

Recently, the use of nanotechnology in food has gained great interest. Iron nanoparticles with unique chemical, physical and structural properties allow their potential use mainly as iron fortifiers, colorants and antimicrobial agents. However, in the market we can find only supplements and food colorants based on iron nanoparticles. Their use in food fortification has so far been focused only on in vitro and in vivo experimental studies, since the toxicological evaluation of these studies has so far been the basis for the proposals of laws and regulations, which are still in an early stage of development. Therefore, the aim of this work was to summarize the use of the different forms of iron nanoparticles (oxides, oxyhydroxides, phosphates, pyrophosphates and sulfates) as food additives and supplements and to resume the perspectives of legislation regarding the use of these types of nanoparticles in the food industry.

RESUMEN

Many studies have shown that patients with autoimmune disease present a hypoactive hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, but the results are controversial. Our objective was to study differences in stress response axis activity between patients with autoimmune disease and healthy people. The study sample consisted of 97 women divided into four groups: 37 healthy women (HW), 21 with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), 21 with Sjögren's syndrome (SS), and 18 with systemic sclerosis (SSc). After being exposed to a stress task, participants' skin conductance and salivary cortisol levels were measured in order to assess their response to psychological stress. Diurnal cortisol concentrations were assessed by measuring salivary cortisol in samples collected five times over one day. In addition, self-administered questionnaires were used to assess psychological variables. A time × group interaction effect was found (p = 0.003) in salivary cortisol secretion in response to stressful challenge. The healthy group presented normal activation, the SS and SLE groups showed no activation, and the SSc group presented a similar activation pattern to the HW group, except at the time of recovery. Total cortisol production (AUCg) was higher in the SSc group than in the HW group (p = 0.001). Differences were also observed in the cortisol AUCg collected over one day between healthy women and patients with SLE (p = 0.004) as well as with SSc (p = 0.001): women with SLE and SSc presented higher total hormone production than healthy women. Patients with autoimmune disease present a different HPA axis response, which may contribute to the harmful effects of stress in these diseases.

RESUMEN

This study investigates the feasibility and functionality of accelerometer and gyroscope sensors for gesture-based interactions in mobile app user experience. The core of this innovative approach lies in introducing a dynamic and intuitive user interaction model with the device sensors. The Android app developed for this purpose has been created for its use in controlled experiments. Methodologically, it was created as a stand-alone tool to both capture quantitative (time, automatically captured) and qualitative (behavior, collected with post-task questionnaires) variables. The app's setting features a set of modules with two levels each (randomized presentation applied, minimizing potential learning effects), allowing users to interact with both sensor-based and traditional touch-based scenarios. Preliminary results with 22 participants reveal that tasks involving sensor-based interactions tend to take longer to complete when compared to the traditional ones. Remarkably, many participants rated sensor-based interactions as a better option than touch-based interactions, as seen in the post-task questionnaires. This apparent discrepancy between objective completion times and subjective user perceptions requires a future in-depth exploration of factors influencing user experiences, including potential learning curves, cognitive load, and task complexity. This study contributes to the evolving landscape of mobile app user experience, emphasizing the benefits of considering the integration of device sensors (and gesture-based interactions) in common mobile usage.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Identifying determinants that can predict response to weight loss interventions is imperative for optimizing therapeutic benefit. We aimed to identify changes in DNA methylation and mRNA expression of a subset of target genes following dietary and surgical interventions in high-fat-diet (HFD)-induced obese rats. METHODS: Forty-two adult Wistar Han male rats were divided into two groups: control rats (n = 7) and obese rats (n = 28), fed a HFD for 10 weeks (t10). Obese rats were randomly subdivided into five intervention groups (seven animals per group): (i) HFD; (ii) very-low-calorie diet (VLCD); (iii) sham surgery, and (iv) sleeve gastrectomy (SG). At week sixteen (t16), animals were sacrificed and tissue samples were collected to analyze changes in DNA methylation and mRNA expression of the selected genes. RESULTS: By type of intervention, the surgical procedures led to the greatest weight loss. Changes in methylation and/or expression of candidate genes occurred proportionally to the effectiveness of the weight loss interventions. Leptin expression, increased sixfold in the visceral fat of the obese rats, was partially normalized after all interventions. The expression of fatty acid synthase (FASN) and monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP-1) genes, which was reduced 0.5- and 0.15-fold, respectively, in the liver tissue of obese rats, were completely normalized after weight loss interventions, particularly after surgical interventions. The upregulation of FASN and MCP-1 gene expression was accompanied by a significant reduction in promoter methylation, up to 0.5-fold decrease in the case of the FASN (all intervention groups) and a 0.8-fold decrease in the case of the MCP-1 (SG group). CONCLUSIONS: Changes in tissue expression of specific genes involved in the pathophysiological mechanisms of obesity can be significantly attenuated following weight loss interventions, particularly surgery. Some of these genes are regulated by epigenetic mechanisms.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: to discuss ethical aspects in nursing care for transgender people. METHODS: reflective study based on the dilemmas that emerges in nursing care for transgender people. The report was structured around the four bioethical principles. RESULTS: health care for trans people is complex, transversal to many devices and specialties and longitudinal in time, that is why it requires coordinated action. There is an ethical framework in which the nursing care must be observed in the care of this group. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS: the nurse as a health worker can assume several general lines in the care of transgender patients. So, complementary training should be provided not only to professionals, but also to students of nursing and other health sciences.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: microRNAs (miRNAs) present in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of patients with chronic periodontitis may serve as biomarkers of periodontal disease. The aim of this study was to perform a miRNA-sequencing study of all miRNAs present in GCF, comparing miRNA expression level profiles between advanced chronic periodontitis (CP) patients and healthy subjects (HS). MATERIALS AND METHODS: GCF samples were collected from the single-rooted teeth of patients with severe CP (n = 11) and of HS (n = 12). miRNAs were isolated from GCF using an miRNeasy Serum/Plasma kit(Qiagen GmbH, Hilden, Germany). Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was used to determine the expression levels of miRNA candidates involved in periodontal pathogenesis. RESULTS: Of all the sequenced miRNAs, miR-199, miR-146a, miR-30a, and miR-338 were identified as best representing the CP patient samples. The validation study identified miR-199 as the most powerful biomarker used to define periodontitis. CONCLUSIONS: Upon sequencing all known miRNAs in GCF for the first time, we uncovered several potential biomarkers to define periodontitis. Identifying miRNAS in the GCF using high-throughput approaches will clarify the role of these molecules in periodontitis and provide biomarkers with potential applications.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Malnutrition is a recurring problem that has become more relevant in recent years. The aim of this study is to assess the risk of malnutrition and nutritional status on admission and its evolution until discharge in patients aged 65 and over admitted to medical and surgical hospitalization units in hospitals of the Spanish National Health System. METHODS: Prospective observational study to be carried out in the medical-surgical hospitalization units of 9 public hospitals between 01/09/2022 and 31/12/2024. Using consecutive sampling, a total of 4077 patients will be included (453 in each hospital). Variables included are related to the care process, functionality, cognition and comorbidity, risk profile, nutritional status and dysphagia; as well as frailty, dietary quality and contextual variables. The incidence of risk of malnutrition, undernutrition and dysphagia during the care process and at discharge will be calculated. The association with risk factors will be studied with logistic regression models and multivariate Cox regression models. In addition, an analysis of participants' satisfaction with food services will be carried out. The study was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee on 30/09/2020, approved for funding on 02/12/2021 and with registration number RBR-5jnbyhk in the Brazilian clinical trials database (ReBEC) for observational studies. DISCUSSION: Some studies address nutritional status or dysphagia in older people in various care settings. However, there is a lack of large sample studies including both processes of the impact of hospitalization. The results of the project will provide information on the incidence and prevalence of both pathologies in the study subjects, their associated factors and their relationship with the average length of stay, mortality and early readmission. In addition, early detection of a problem such as malnutrition related to the disease and/or dysphagia during a hospital stay will favor the action of professionals to resolve both pathologies and improve the health status of patients.

RESUMEN

The exploration of Mars is one of the main objectives of space missions since the red planet is considered to be, or was in the past, potentially habitable. Although the surface of Mars is now dry and arid, abundant research suggests that water covered Mars billions of years ago. Recently, the existence of liquid water in subglacial lakes has been postulated below the South pole of Mars. Until now, experiments have been carried out on the survival of microorganisms in Martian surface conditions, but it remains unknown how their adaptation mechanisms would be in the Martian cryosphere. In this work, two bacterial species (Bacillus subtilis and Curtobacterium flacumfaciens) were subjected to a simulated Martian environment during 24 h using a planetary chamber. Afterward, the molecular machinery of both species was studied to investigate how they had been modified. Proteomes, the entire set of proteins expressed by each bacterium under Earth (named standard) conditions and Martian conditions, were compared using proteomic techniques. To establish this evaluation, both the expression levels of each protein, and the variation in their distribution within the different functional categories were considered. The results showed that these bacterial species followed a different strategy. The Bacillus subtilis resistance approach consisted of improving its stress response, membrane bioenergetics, degradation of biomolecules; and to a lesser extent, increasing its mobility and the formation of biofilms or resistance endospores. On the contrary, enduring strategy of Curtobacterium flacumfaciens comprised of strengthening the cell envelope, trying to protect cells from the extracellular environment. These results are especially important due to their implications for planetary protection, missions to Mars and sample return since contamination by microorganisms would invalidate the results of these investigations.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: The management of liver transplantation has become a complex process involving different healthcare professionals. Teamwork, standardisation and definition of the best practices are essential for success, patient satisfaction and society's favourable perception of transplantation programmes.ISO 9001:2015 certification provides the necessary elements to help implement a quality management system (QMS) to ensure that patient care is performed with the highest guarantees of clinical quality and safety. The aim of this study is to describe the steps, strengths and limitations in the implementation of a QMS in a liver transplant programme (LTP). PROJECT MANAGEMENT METHOD: This included analysing the starting point, setting up a working group, training, defining the scope of certification, preparing documentation, and conducting an internal and external audit, which culminated in the ISO 9001 quality certification award. The scope of QMS includes all the processes of LTP, from referral of candidates to long-term follow-up after transplantation. RESULTS: The project was structured in seven phases that took place between 2008 and 2011. The implementation of QMS led to the generation of all the necessary documentation to meet the requirements of the standard, including internal and legal requirements related to the transplant activity. The establishment of indicators to measure the effectiveness of processes, risk management and the identification of incidents allows us to implement measures devoted to avoiding the deficiencies and to meet the established objectives. CONCLUSION: ISO 9001:2015 certification has contributed to the adaptation of a new quality and safety culture focused on the patient. All activities are protocolised, everything is recorded, measured, and verified, and all steps are taken as planned. Work is carried out in terms of continuous improvement. This has led to less variability in daily clinical practice and a better understanding of work dynamics.

RESUMEN

Endolithic microorganisms, ranging from microeukaryotes to bacteria and archaea, live within the cracks and crevices of rocks. Deception Island in Antarctica constitutes an extreme environment in which endoliths face environmental threats such as intense cold, lack of light in winter, high solar radiation in summer, and heat emitted as the result of volcanic eruptions. In addition, the endolithic biome is considered the harshest one on Earth, since it suffers added threats such as dryness or lack of nutrients. Even so, samples from this hostile environment, collected at various points throughout the island, hosted diverse and numerous microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, diatoms, ciliates, flagellates and unicellular algae. These endoliths were first identified by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). To understand the molecular mechanisms of adaptation of these endoliths to their environment, genomics techniques were used, and prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms were identified by metabarcoding, sequencing the V3-V4 and V4-V5 regions of the 16S and 18S rRNA genes, respectively. Subsequently, the sequences were analyzed by bioinformatic methods that allow their metabolism to be deduced from the taxonomy. The results obtained concluded that some of these microorganisms have activated the biosynthesis routes of pigments such as prodigiosin or flavonoids. These adaptation studies also revealed that microorganisms defend themselves against environmental toxins by activating metabolic pathways for the degradation of compounds such as ethylbenzene, xylene and dioxins and for the biosynthesis of antioxidant molecules such as glutathione. Finally, these Antarctic endolithic microorganisms are of great interest in astrobiology since endolithic settings are environmentally analogous to the primitive Earth or the surfaces of extraterrestrial bodies.

RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: As leading contributors to worldwide morbidity and mortality, sepsis and septic shock are considered a major global health concern. Proactive biomarker identification in patients with sepsis suspicion at any time remains a daunting challenge for hospitals. Despite great progress in the understanding of clinical and molecular aspects of sepsis, its definition, diagnosis, and treatment remain challenging, highlighting a need for new biomarkers with potential to improve critically ill patient management. In this study we validate a quantitative mass spectrometry method to measure circulating histone levels in plasma samples for the diagnosis and prognosis of sepsis and septic shock patients. METHODS: We used the mass spectrometry technique of multiple reaction monitoring to quantify circulating histones H2B and H3 in plasma from a monocenter cohort of critically ill patients admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and evaluated its performance for the diagnosis and prognosis of sepsis and septic shock (SS). RESULTS: Our results highlight the potential of our test for early diagnosis of sepsis and SS. H2B levels above 121.40 ng/mL (IQR 446.70) were indicative of SS. The value of blood circulating histones to identify a subset of SS patients in a more severe stage with associated organ failure was also tested, revealing circulating levels of histones H2B above 435.61 ng/ml (IQR 2407.10) and H3 above 300.61 ng/ml (IQR 912.77) in septic shock patients with organ failure requiring invasive organ support therapies. Importantly, we found levels of H2B and H3 above 400.44 ng/mL (IQR 1335.54) and 258.25 (IQR 470.44), respectively in those patients who debut with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). Finally, a receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve) demonstrated the prognostic value of circulating histone H3 to predict fatal outcomes and found for histone H3 an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.720 (CI 0.546-0.895) p < 0.016 on a positive test cut-off point at 486.84 ng/mL, showing a sensitivity of 66.7% and specificity of 73.9%. CONCLUSIONS: Circulating histones analyzed by MS can be used to diagnose SS and identify patients at high risk of suffering DIC and fatal outcome.

RESUMEN

Background: In the last two years, breastfeeding rates have experienced a notable decline worldwide. Only 46% of women breastfeed their children, the figure being much lower in primiparous women. Breastfed milk is the ideal food for babies; its benefits for the health of mothers and babies are scientifically proven. Several studies show that babies who are not breastfed have a higher risk of getting sick. This fact gives rise to an important public health problem. The aim of this paper is to describe the association between presence of the caregiver in health education and increasing rates of breastfeeding. Methods: We conducted an observational study (cohort) in a population of primiparous pregnant women (n = 88), and their main caregivers belonging to a region of central Spain. The development, content and implementation of the intervention consisted of: 1) obtaining the blood levels of pregnant women (prolactin, folic acid, vitamin B12 and transferrin) before health education (13-26 weeks of pregnancy), 2) carry out health education with two groups: A (44 pregnant women with caregivers) and B (44 without caregivers), 3) obtain the same blood levels as in the first intervention, 15 days after delivery, and finally the evaluation of the intervention with breastfeeding rates. Results: The levels of prolactin (288.57 ± 107.46 nanogrammes per millilitre (ng / ml)), folic acid (16.93 ± 4.09 ng / ml), vitamin B12 (505.05 ± 213.97 picogrammes (pg) / ml) and transferrin (296.82 ± 67.61 milligrammmes per decilitre (mg / dl)) were higher in pregnant women who attended the health education program with a caregiver than in pregnant women who attended alone: prolcoactin (103.61 ± 45.48 ng / ml), folic acid (7.16 ± 5.88 ng / ml), vitamin B12 (160.59 ± 36.92 pg / ml) and transferrin (223.86 ± 44.14 mg / dl). Of the sample size of 44 primiparous people who attended the talks with caregivers, 35 (79.54%) breastfed their babies, while the other 44 primiparous women who attended alone, only seven (15.91%) established breastfeeding successfully. Conclusions: The implications for public health research are that the presence of a caregiver in health education programs modifies levels of prolactin, folic acid, vitamin B12, and transferrin, as well as increasing breastfeeding rates.

RESUMEN

Background: Vascular endothelial growth factor-D (VEGF-D) is the most commonly used biomarker for diagnosing lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM). However, lung biopsy is often necessary as well; therefore, defining new biomarkers for LAM is crucial. The aim of this study was to describe the diagnostic accuracy of a variety of biomarkers. Methods: We assessed 13 analytes in serum related to extracellular matrix remodeling, lymphatic involvement and angiogenesis in a cohort of patients with LAM, comparing them with patients with other cystic lung diseases (OCLD) and healthy women. A scoring method based on the cut-point of each VEGF-D and metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) was used to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the marker combination. Results: A total of 97 subjects were recruited: 59 (61%) LAM patients, 18 (19%) OCLD patients, and 20 (20%) healthy female controls. MMP-2 was the only extracellular matrix remodeling biomarker able to differentiate LAM patients from OCLD and healthy patients. Serum MMP-2 was higher in LAM patients [median 578 (465-832) ng/ml] than in patients with OCLD and healthy controls [medians 360 (314-546) and 427 (365-513) ng/ml, respectively (p < 0.0001)]. The area under ROC curve (AUC) of MMP-2 was 0.785 and that of VEGF-D 0.815 (p = 0.6214). The sensitivity/specificity profiles of each biomarker (54/92% for MMP-2, 59/95% for VEGF-D) yielded a composite score (-6.36 + 0.0059 × VEGF-D + 0.0069 × MMP-2) with higher accuracy than each component alone (AUC 0.88 and sensitivity/specificity 79/87%). Conclusion: Combining MMP-2 and VEGF-D may increase diagnostic accuracy for LAM.

RESUMEN

Over the last years, perennial ice deposits located within caves have awakened interest as places to study microbial communities since they represent unique cryospheric archives of climate change. Since the beginning of the twentieth century, the temperature has gradually increased, and it is estimated that by the end of this century the increase in average temperature could be around 4.0°C. In this context of global warming the ice deposits of the Pyrenean caves are undergoing a significant regression. Among this type of caves, that on the Cotiella Massif in the Southern Pyrenees is one of the southernmost studied in Europe. These types of caves house microbial communities which have so far been barely explored, and therefore their study is necessary. In this work, the microbial communities of the Pyrenean ice cave A294 were identified using metabarcoding techniques. In addition, research work was carried out to analyze how the age and composition of the ice affect the composition of the bacterial and microeukaryotic populations. Finally, the in vivo effect of climate change on the cellular machinery that allow microorganisms to live with increasing temperatures has been studied using proteomic techniques.

Objective: To compare the clinical characteristics, treatments, and evolution of critical patients with COVID-19 pneumonia treated in intensive care units (ICU) after one year of pandemic. Methodology: Multicenter, prospective study, which included critical COVID-19 patients in 9 ICUs in northwestern Spain. The clinical characteristics, treatments, and evolution of patients admitted to the ICU during the months of March-April 2020 (period1) were compared with patients admitted in January-February 2021 (period2). Results: 337 patients were included (98 in period1 and 239 in period2). In period2, fewer patients required invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) (65% vs. 84%, P<.001), using high-flow nasal cannulas (CNAF) more frequently (70% vs. 7%, P<.001), ventilation non-invasive mechanical (NIMV) (40% vs. 14%, P<.001), corticosteroids (100% vs. 96%, P=.007) and prone position in both awake (42% vs. 28%, P=.012), and intubated patients (67% vs. 54%, P=.034). The days of IMV, ICU stay and hospital stay were lower in period2. Mortality was similar in the two periods studied (16% vs. 17%). Conclusions: After one year of pandemic, we observed that in patients admitted to the ICU, CNAF, NIMV, use of the prone position, and corticosteroids have been used more frequently, reducing the number of patients in IMV, and the length of stay in the ICU and hospital stay.

Introduction: Within the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic, and given the situation in Argentina, there is a high number of people who experience food insecurity. This can lead to the development of acute and chronic diseases and can even increase mortality. To address this situation in the La Granja neighborhood in Ciudad de la Plata, the project "Collective construction of healthy and sustainable habits" was developed and implemented in order to promote consumption and improve access to quality food, through the development of family gardens, accompanied by food and nutrition education. Objective: to evaluate the impact on the eating pattern of an intervention based on the development of family gardens accompanied by food-nutritional education. Methods: A longitudinal descriptive study was carried out with vulnerable families from the La Granja neighborhood of the City of La Plata in the context of social and preventive isolation due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The inputs were provided for the development of a family garden and material on nutrition and nutrition education for remote management was provided to teachers of school N.º 22 and coordinators of the Iris club of the La Granja neighborhood, in the City of La Plata. A self-administered questionnaire on eating habits was carried out at the beginning and at 6 months. Basic statistics, the Mann Whitney and Mc Nemar tests were performed; we consider significant the value of p=0.05. Results: 77 families completed the program, we observed an increase in the number of meals eaten per day (p=0.03); the frequency of consumption of vegetables (p=0.05) and fruits (p=0.06) increased (does not include potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn). The consumption of legumes also increased (p=0.09). These foods are the most deficient in our diet according to ENNYS 2 data. A reduction in oil consumption was observed (p=0.04), possibly related to the cost of this product. The purchase of fruits and vegetables during these 6 months presented a significant reduction (p=0.043). In addition, obtaining them from home gardens and community kitchens increased (p < 0.0001). The increase in families attending community kitchens is probably related to the COVID-19 pandemic situation. Conclusions: The implementation of family gardens accompanied by remote food-nutritional education in the framework of the COVID-19 pandemic is a valid strategy for improving the food-nutritional pattern of families in vulnerable situations

Anger in sport seems to be, apparently, an intrinsic characteristic in the development of sport, especially when it is the competition that marks the context in which it develops. I began a systematic review of the study of anger in athletes and its relationship with personality variables, which could be at the origin of this explain violent behavior. The procedure we followed was firstly, selection of the key words (anger, personality and sport) and then we searched and selected in the databases "Web of Science", "SCOPUS", "Dialnet", "PsycInfo", "Psicodoc", "PubMed" and "SPORTDiscus" those articles that were related to this topic. After thefiltering described in the methodology section, a total of 10 articles were obtained. The most relevant conclusion was that there is a close relationship between certain personality patterns and aggressive and/or unsportsmanlike behavior in the sports context. The main contributions made by the researchers have been establishing as future lines of research and practical application the use of a female sample to be able to generalize to the whole population, the creation of standard questionnaires that measure the variables in the same way and, above all, the creation of emotional management programs to control these maladaptive patterns.
